Common Whitetail(Plathemis lydia) - Male

The contrasting combination of a powder blue abdomen and checkered wings makes unique this very attractive North American dragonfly species. A favorite visitor to backyard ponds, marshes, and at riverside locals. The pale blue pruinescence, found only on mature males, acts as a territorial warning to other males.
