The Refusal Colaptes auratus auratus

As a part of the fledging process, a parent will arrive at the nest hole as per a normal feeding routine. But instead of offering food, it will quickly turn and fly away from it's hungry chick and to a distant tree top where it will attempt to call and lure the chick into flight.
